Banana Chocolate Waffle, $4.80

The Age

Tuesday July 10, 2007

Liz O'Donnell

If it's Tuesday, this must be Belgium, reasoned the 1969 romantic comedy that saw a busload of tourists race through seven countries in 18 days. This year, the Tour de France races through three countries in 23 days, and this Tuesday they will also be in Belgium. While the peloton is carb-loading on the Liege waffle, Melburnians can do the same at Waffle On. Their yeasty waffles are made with imported pearl sugar, giving them their characteristic caramelised coating. Banana chocolate is a tour de force: a warm, crisp, honeycombed pillow of waffle topped with sliced banana and a generous ooze of dark chocolate sauce.
